ford gt carbon series

Strictly limited: Lightest Ford GT and lots of carbon

The lightest Ford GT ever is packed with innovations like carbon fiber wheels and a polycarbonate engine cover. The racing car will be seen extremely rarely: only one copy of the sports car, which was specifically designed according to customer requirements, is to be built per week.

The Ford GT super sports car with a 656 hp 3.5-liter V6 will soon also be available in the USA as an exclusive “carbon” version – 18 kilograms lighter than the conventional GT version. This makes the “Carbon” – now the third Ford GT special model – the lightest Ford GT ever and features more carbon/carbon fiber elements than any previous GT model. The “Carbon” is based on the current Ford GT and will be extremely rare: only one copy will be built per week.

Targeted weight savings and lots of carbon

A large number of lightweight components such as carbon/carbon fiber wheels, a titanium exhaust system, titanium wheel nuts, and a polycarbonate engine cover at the rear with additional ventilation ensure a weight saving of around 18 kilos. There were also no cup holders – on the one hand. On the other hand, the Ford engineers gave the vehicle air conditioning and an audio system including the Ford SYNC 3 communication and entertainment system.

“This vehicle shows that at Ford we are truly responsive to what our customers want,” said Lance Mosley, marketing manager, Ford Performance. “The Ford GT was originally developed for motorsport purists. However, we have noticed that buyers are increasingly asking for air conditioning and an audio system for this supercar. There was also increasing demand for carbon fiber designs. That’s why we developed the ‘Carbon’ series to meet these needs while being able to offer a distinctive look”.

Immediately recognizable exclusive special model

The carbon rally stripes that run across the entire vehicle, the carbon fiber elements on the A-pillars and in the lower body area as well as the matt black carbon fiber wheels are already recognizable at first glance. There are also numerous matt carbon fiber surfaces in the interior, for example in the areas of the air vents and the center console. “The new Ford GT ‘Carbon’ will stand out on the road with its distinctive carbon fiber design and score points on the track with its weight savings,” said Hermann Salenbauch, global director, Ford Performance.

Optional accents package with four additional color variations US customers can add color accents to the Ford GT Carbon if they wish. You can choose between the colors silver, orange, red or blue, so that the exterior mirror covers and the brake calipers, among other things, can then be painted in the color of your choice. In the cockpit of the Ford GT Carbon, among other things, silver-colored seat seams set color accents.

Expected to be the last Ford GT order window

Ford Motor Company recently announced that it would extend production of the Ford GT to 2022 – by around two years – in response to strong customer demand as global interest outstrips supply by more than six times. The new and probably last time window in which interested parties can apply to buy this exclusive super sports car is open from November 8th to December 8th.

Ford originally announced limited production of 1,000 units over a four-year period. This would have ended Ford GT production. A total of 1,350 Ford GTs are to be delivered worldwide by the end of 2022.
